Behind the boundary-pushing title, resides the group ready to showcase their appreciation towards the music masters of today and those to come. The foundation of The Avangard Trio can be tracked back to 2011 when Mihael Paar teamed up with the violinist Marco Graziani, thus setting the core of the new chamber platform. Shortly afterwards, the pianist Krešimir Starčević joined in and the non-classic piano trio was established as the first such ensemble in Croatia to give concerts on a regular basis. The Debut performance took place in the historic town of Zadar in spring of 2012 and marked the beginning of the extremely successful concert series that followed. Highest level of chamber musicianship merged with unique style and distinctive sound of two descant and one all-round instrument, has been in the center of the group’s aspirations and serves as the vehicle of its artists credo since very beginnings.
The Avangrad Trio strives to justify its name by stepping out of the comfort zone and performing works ranging from standards to the complex structures of the contemporaries and their Croatian counterparts. Described as dazzling and passionate, vibrating and charming, energetic and innovative, The Avangard Trio conveniently fits into the field of domestic chamber scene both by its attributes and rare-to-find ensemble structure. Each of its members enjoys the reputation of a distinctive musician, with exhaustive list of acknowledgments on his credit. The Trio is also engaged in outreach and has given benefit concerts to support young musicians in Croatia.
